Appearance: dark purple-red. Nose: immensely bright fruit on the first nose with blackcurrant, blackberry and black plum which is almost perfumed in its interaction with what is very well-integrated savoury oak. Palate: quite restrained palate, certainly the vibrant fruit is there but there is also a tight medium-high coating tannic structure that will take some time to unravel with further bottle age. Balanced high alcohol, medium acidity with excellent length. Conclusion: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, the wine spent some 18 months in new French oak and is still a baby really. Although approachable, this wine still has a very promising life ahead of it. Drink now if you can’t resist, but, ideally, wait until 2012 or for longer to see more development. The below rating reflects current drinking and is sure to be higher with age (note also these marks are for fine wine only). more
